The Ecologist Green Party (PVE) of Moldova calls all state institutions and the organizers of the protest scheduled for August 26, to ensure a peaceful, non-violent event, IPN reports, quoting a statement from the Party.

“On August 26, 2018, the rally in Union Square will gather citizens from throughout the country, as well as the diaspora. The protest is similar to the one that took place on August 10, in Bucharest. The rally in our neighbor country has shown that a peaceful protest can easily be perturbed by violent groups, leading to injuries among both peaceful protesters and law enforcement officers,” the document says.

Aiming to prevent and exclude any possibility of provocations and violent acts during the protest on August 26, 2018, the Ecologist Green Party calls upon the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the organizers of the event to ensure respect for the constitutional rights of Moldovan citizens to freedom of assembly, freedom of opinion and speech, as well as the rights to life, and physical and psychological integrity.

The PVE urges the organizers of the event on August 26, 2018 to fully comprehend the responsibility they have assumed, that is to organize a secure event, and to exclude any attempt to perturb the peaceful assembly of participants at this event.

“We urge the Ministry of Internal Affairs to put in all efforts to ensure a peaceful unfolding of the rally on August 26, 2018, and to quell any attempt of violence or instigation to violence. We ask all participants at the event to protest peacefully, to avoid answering to any kind of provocation, and to keep away from people who will call to such actions. Only then will we prove that we are a peaceful, European people, where constitutional rights are guaranteed and respected by both citizens and their government. Any disruption of the situation in Moldova will negatively affect all citizens, leading to repercussions on both national and international levels,” the PVE statement says.
