Thousands of trees, bushes and annual plants in Chisinau are sprayed against infections and pests. Every 10-15 days there are witnessed explosions in vegetation infections and the green areas risk becoming infected if they are not treated with chemicals.

Contacted by IPN, deputy head of the Green Areas Managing Association Galina Leahu said the pests destroy the elm trees, roses and coniferous trees. Many lime trees have their leaves scorched because of the very high temperatures

The chemical substances used in spraying are made abroad and are purchased by tender contests. Chemicals to the value of about half a million lei have been purchased until now. Approximately 3 million lei was allocated from the Chisinau budget for the purpose, but the amount needed is about 5.5 million lei.

Galina Leahu also said that the used chemicals are verified by the Public Health Center so as not to affect the people’s health. The Association’s employees also splash the lakes and ponds against mosquitoes and other dangerous insects.

The green areas in Chisinau occupy over 3,000 hectares.
