Moldovan Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanyi visited Moscow on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of resumption of gas supply to Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a governmental press release it was said that Greceanyi held meetings with her Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, the leadership of Gazprom, and with Russia's President Dmitri Medvedev.
Zinaida Greceanyi informed the Russian authorities about the situation created in Moldova as a result of the halt in gas supplies, expressing her indignation at the fact that the Moldovan consumers had to suffer the consequences of the arguments between Russia and Ukraine.
The interlocutors also exchanged opinions on what should be done to overcome the gas crisis and the Russian side accepted a series of proposals made by the prime ministers of Moldova, Slovakia and Bulgaria, who visited Moscow yesterday. In particular, Russia proposed that Ukraine should supply gas to Moldova and Slovakia under swap agreements.
As a result, according to the press release, Ukraine resumed gas deliveries to the Odessa region yesterday evening, which allowed the provision of gas in minimal amounts to the Moldovan districts of Stefan Voda and Causeni and the Transnistrian region.
The news will also allow schools in Moldova to resume classes today, January 15, after a prolonged holiday.
