The Council of the Great National Assembly on November 1 will set up the initiative group responsible for the collection of signatures in support of holding a constitutional referendum on the election of the head of state by the people. The Council’s administration called on the people to come to the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau in a large number at 10am so that representatives of all the country’s districts are included in the group, IPN reports.
“During the week, we will technically and procedurally prepare the process of initiating and organizing the referendum on the amendment of the Constitution so that it allows for the direct election of the President,” said the Council’s head Andrei Nastase.
He also said that a new protest will be mounted at the Presidential Residence on October 28. The protesters will demand that the head of state should sign the Premier’s requisition to dismiss the director of the National Anticorruption Center Viorel Chetraru.
According to Andrei Nastase, the protests will be extended and intensified so as to pressurize the government into starting to satisfy protesters’ demands.
