Grants to support women in rural areas

The Civil Society Program of Soros Foundation-Moldova has announced an open contest of grants for supporting the participation of rural women in public and political decision making at the local level. The project's budget is US$13,000 and will be implemented during at most eight months, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Foundation. The project will financially support the activities aimed at encouraging the women living in rural areas to actively engage in community life, in the context of the 2011 local elections. The organizations must also carry out activities to remove the stereotypes and obstacles hindering the women from asserting themselves in public and political life. The Civil Society Program will support at least 10 nongovernmental organizations and aims to develop a network consisting of 60 women as future social and political leaders The Encouragement of Active Women Participation in Community Life Project is financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The deadline for applications is November 1. The decision to provide financing will be taken by the jury of the Civil Society Program and the Senate of Soros Foundation-Moldova within two months of the deadline.
