Nongovernmental organizations operating on the two sides of the Nistru River by the end of March can take part in a contest of grants for common initiatives aimed at building confidence by human rights education activities.

The Institute for Democracy, in partnership with the Bulgarian Community “Rodoliubets” and the Center for the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Young Women, offers seven grants of €7,000 each within a European project to raise mutual trust between teachers.

In a news conference at IPN, Andrei Borshevski, chairman of the administration board of the Comrat-based public association Institute for Democracy, said the initiatives should be proposed by at least two organizations, from the right and the left banks of the Nistru, while the project implementation period should be of at most six months of the selection of winners.

As part of the European project to build confidence between teachers, resource centers have been already opened in Comrat, Chisinau and Parcani. Here, teachers can improve their skills by learning modern pro-active human rights education methods. They have access to new methodological literature. According to methodologist Jana Shashakova, the results are positive for students and for teachers too.

Andrei Nicolaev, head of the Bulgarian Community “Rodoliubets” of Parcani, expects that when the project is over, in December 2018, the public organizations will be able to establish partnership relations with schools as there are no such relations at present, while the state bodies will express greater interest in innovations in the education system, for the benefit of teachers and students. There is not much confidence and intercommunication between the banks of the Nistru, but, owing to the European projects, things move on.

The project “Raising Mutual Trust between Teachers on Both Banks of the Nistru River: Building Regional Capacities for Continuous Development of Teachers' Skills of the Modern Pro-active Methods of Human Rights Education” was launched in December 2016.
