Graduates of 1976 of the ex-school nr.1 of Chisinau, currently Theoretic Romanian-French Lyceum „Gheorghe Asachi”, engaged themselves in restoring on their own account the inscription in front of the institution, damaged by the current pupils after the words „Romanian-French” had been replaced with „Moldovan-French”. The intention to cover the expenses is an „ act of solidarity with the pupils and teachers of the Romanian-French Lyceum „Gheorghe Asachi”, who fight for their national dignity and defend historic traditions of the Lyceum”, according to a statement of the of the graduates of 1976 of this institution. The graduates express their „deep concern related to barbaric actions of the current power”. The way the inscription of the lyceum was changed over night shows, in under signers’ opinion, the fact that „ leadership of Chisinau is still loyal to Soviet ideals and cannot get over the phobia for what Romanian means”. At the same time, the graduates consider inadmissible „the Communist character to impose by force their own ideology”. The declaration authors noted that these event makes them to believe that the mentality and ideals of the current leadership of Moldova are not much different from those of the members of the central committee of the Communist Party of RSSM, as when they have graduated the school, the Communist Party forced them to give money for the monument of Grigori Kotovski, back when the school was named after him. They expressed their solidarity with the courage and civic attitude of the students, in „their protest against the abuses applied by a non-democratic governance”.
