Govt outlines measures to deal will flooding effects, sets up disaster relief commission

The Government has outlined a series of measures to deal away with the effects of the recent floods. A special commission will be set up shortly to estimate the damages caused and coordinate disaster relief efforts, Info-Prim Neo reports. Among the members of the commission are the ministers of Local Public Administration, of Finance, of Interiors, of Agriculture and Food Industry, and of Territorial Development. It will also include directors of a host of governmental agencies as well as heads of local authorities from the affected communities. First Deputy Premier Igor Dodon was appointed to head the commission, which is to propose a plan of actions within five days. Premier Zinaida Greceanyi praised Igor Dodon for his previous efforts in handling the situation, noting that all the agencies engaged in the relief efforts have been working efficiently. “In three months we have to provide decent housing to the more than 4,000 persons left without shelter”, declared the premier. Greceanyi informed that some entities from the private sector have expressed willingness to lend a helping hand. For example, the Rezina-based cement manufacturer Lafarge vowed to donate 1,000 tonnes of cement to help victims restore their homes. International organizations are also transferring funds to the bank account opened for this purpose by the Ministry of Finance, said Greceanyi, urging well-to-do members of the society to join the cause.
