The Government’s decisions in the field of transport aim to increase the safety, fairness and quality of citizens’ journeys, and all reform measures in the field of road transport are for the benefit of passengers, the Government’s spokesman Daniel Vodă said, commenting on the carriers’ request to the Government to become involved in solving the problems that, they say, endanger the transport sector, IPN reports.

According to Daniel Vodă, all the measures taken within the road transport reform are for the benefit of passengers and are aimed at improving travel conditions, namely healthy competition and more travel options for passengers. The mayor’s offices are supported to provide transport to residents, including by opening new regular routes and modifying existing routes.

“We are reducing bureaucracy! We said “goodbye” to the waybill. We tax and digitize road transport: e-ticket, e-GPS and e-routing. We impose the taxing of the travel ticket issuance process, and the tickets will be issued in the form of receipts or electronic documents”. The Government insists that this process be carried out by the end of 2024.

According to Daniel Vodă, the taken decisions aim to increase the safety, fairness and quality of citizens’ travels, which is an essential objective for the authorities in the dialogue with carriers. “So, are these measures welcome for passengers and for carriers that want to work properly? Yes. Are these measures welcome for those who want to work according to the old rules? Probably not,” the Government’s spokesman concluded.

The Employers’ Association of Motor Transport Operators published an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Dorin Recean, whereby they ask the official to get involved in solving the problems that endanger the transport sector. APOTA asked the Prime Minister for an audience with the carriers to discuss and find solutions. If solutions are not found, the carriers say they could go on strike.
