Government will settle a part of overdue membership dues to international and regional organisations

The Government approved the allocation of about 54.5 million lei for paying current and overdue membership dues to international and regional organisations, in compliance with the state budget law for 2008.
According to the Minister of Finance Mihai Pop, Moldova will pay the dues according to the importance and efficiency of the international and regional organisations, the payment urgency and the debt reschedule timetable, in accordance with the requests and proposals of the relevant institutions responsible for cooperation with international organisations.
Approximately 11 million lei will be paid to the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, 4.7 million lei to the Council of Europe, 3.8 million lei to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, 1.8 million lei to UNESCO, 1.5 million lei to the OSCE, 1.4 million lei to the International Labour Organisation, 2.4 million lei to the World Health Organisation, 1.7 million lei to the International Organisation of the Francophonie etc.
According to the Government, the membership dues that must be paid to about 60 international and regional organisations this year amount to 24.5 million lei.
At the start of this year, Moldova’s debt to the international and regional organisations that it joined was about 226 million lei.
