Prime Minister Vlad Filat said he is ready to sacrifice his political career if Moldova does not obtain a liberalized visa regime with the European Union. The liberalization of the visa regime is an objective of the Government and, if this goal is not achieved, it will resign. The statement was made in the program “Moldova in Direct” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We speak about a vital thing for our people. The right to free movement is not only the right to get into a car and go on a trip to Europe. The hundreds of thousands of Moldovans who are in Europe will be able to return home regularly to see their families, while the families will be able to go to see them,” said the Premier. Vlad Filat stressed that political support is needed in order to get a liberalized visa regime, not placing barriers. “Nobody will call me Euroskeptical as I’m convinced that Moldova has a European future. But if hindrances are placed, we will never be able to travel freely in the EU,” he stated. Earlier, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca said he will resign if Moldova does not obtain a visa-free regime.
