The state of emergency in the Republic of Moldova could be extended for another 60 days, starting with August 3, 2023. A decision to this effect was approved by the Cabinet based on a decision taken by the Commission for Exceptional Situations. The document is to be presented to Parliament for consideration, IPN reports.
According to Minister of Home Affairs Adrian Efros, the Republic of Moldova is exposed to asymmetric risks and threats and to a wide range of manifestations of hybrid warfare.
The state of emergency needs to be extended due to the persistent risks and threats to national security, including accidental entering by drones and missiles of the national airspace, which can affect the sovereignty, public, energy and communications security.
The authors of the draft decision argue the state of emergency will offer the Government the instruments needed to ensure peace, public, energy and land and port communications security.
The state of emergency was declared on February 24, 2022, when the Russian Federation launched its war of aggression against Ukraine, and was extended for multiple times by Parliament since then.
