The draft law regarding the transformation of the towns of Ungheni, Orhei, Soroca and Cahul into municipalities will be submitted to the Government in October, after it is discussed and approved by local work groups. The information was revealed by one of the authors of the concept, Mihai Roscovan, expert in local administration.
“Generally, the concept enjoys support. These work groups will come up with improvements to the draft, which will be submitted to the peer commission for decentralization. Afterwards, it will be sent to be adopted by the Government and the Parliament”, Mihai Roscovan told Info-Prim Neo.
The expert explained that the idea is for the concerned localities to be offered more responsibilities and, accordingly, more financial means. Public services will be provided not only for the towns, but for the suburbs as well. This will allow lower fees and better quality, claims Mihai Roscovan. The author hopes that all the necessary amendments to the legislation will be made until the end of the year.
The mayors of the four towns declared last week, after a meeting at the State Chancellery, that the initiative is welcome and will have a positive impact on Moldova. Once upgraded to municipalities, the localities will become more attractive for investors and there will be improved opportunities for development.
