The Government is to approve the standard package of state guaranteed education and social services. Under the draft Education Code, the state finances the standard package of education services for mandatory education, regardless of the institution’s form of ownership, IPN reports.

“By setting the state guaranteed minimum package, we want the parents to know that they do not additionally pay for the children’s studies. The payments made to teachers for private lessons are a signal for the Government. We pledged to implement a national program by which to financially motivate the teachers,” Deputy Minister of Education Igor Grosu said in an event that involved journalists.

According to him, if the parents want to pay for the children’s education, in addition to the minimum guaranteed package, they will have to voluntarily form parents committees in order to collect money. The administration boards of the education institutions will have the task to make sure that the money is managed transparently.

Igor Grosu also said that now both the state and the parents pay mainly for the maintenance and heating of institutions, which are outsized. When they are optimized, a large part of the investments will go for studies and optional subjects.

The draft Education Code includes a number of measures aimed at improving education in Moldova. Among them is to extensively study the Romanian and English languages in all the education institutions and to increase the number of optional subjects.
