The government wants to strip President Igor Dodon of another prerogative – the appointment of ministers, constitutional law expert Sergey Mishin stated in the talk show “Key issue” on NTV Moldova channel, IPN reports.

According to him, the Government and Parliament of Moldova adopted a very suitable position – to state that the country is a parliamentary republic. “They, by requesting the Constitutional Court to interpret the supreme law as regards the appointment of ministers, want to withdraw one more prerogative from the President, with the help of the Constitutional Court, which will rule that if the Head of State rejects the government’s candidate for minister of defense the second time, the Premier or the Speaker of Parliament can name a person themselves,” stated Sergey Mishin.

Politologist Alexandru Odintsov said that what is going on in the Republic of Moldova derives from the global processes. The pressure exerted by some of the foreign partners is evident. “The President stated clearly that if there is chaos in continuation, it will be rather hard to control the protests,” stated the politologist, noting that the President doesn’t rule out the possibility of dissolving Parliament for the reason that this does not reflect the people’s will.

Chairman of the Center for Initiatives and Public Authorities Monitoring Ion Dron said the government and the President pursue personal goals in the appointment of the minister of defense. President Dodon should understand that the law enables him to express his dissatisfaction, not yet to take part in governance and the presidential administration does not participate in the decision-making process.
