The Government will propose the draft education strategy until 2020 for public debates, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca announced after the August 24 meeting of the Government that was held in Vadul lui Voda town. The Cabinet discussed education-related problems for about three hours and identified solutions to them. The meeting was held behind closed doors, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Government.

The Premier said the draft strategy is a very precise X-ray photograph of the situation in the education sector and a rather good effort to provide solutions. According to Iurie Leanca, the reform in education involves all the state institutions.

“Today’s discussion was a very important one as the reform in education is not within the competence of a ministry only. It is an effort of the whole society, which should involve all the responsible institutions. There will be drafted a roadmap with several emphases, one of which will be on vocational education,” stated the Premier.

Minister of Education Maia Sandu said the strategy will be built on three pillars: access, relevance, and quality. “First of all, we should ensure access to studies of a high quality for all the children and young people. Relevance is the second aspect because it is important not only to have access and to study. What we learn should be relevant,” she said.

She also said that the qualified teachers are the greatest challenge. A national program with solutions to make the profession of teacher attractive will be presented over the next months.

Once a month, the Government holds thematic meetings outside Chisinau. The first meeting took place in Holercani on July 20. It centered on the complex analysis of the situation in the business sector and the priorities for the immediate future, aimed at accelerating its sustainable development.
