The Government of Moldova intends to launch a program to attract remittances to the economy. “The state will provide one leu per every leu invested in the development of businesses, especially in rural areas,” the head of the Ministry of Economy's SMEs Division Valentina Veverita said. A sum of 200,000 lei will be allocated at the first, trial stage for the purpose, Info-Prim Neo reports. “It is not a large sum, but we hope the foreign donors will back this initiative of the Government and will contribute money. The beneficiaries of the program include persons who worked abroad and returned home and the families that gathered capital from the remittances sent by relatives working abroad and plan to start a business,” Valentina Veverita said. She also said that the program is based on the experience of other countries, including Mexico. The Mexican Government invests two parts of the starting capital per one part invested by the persons who worked in the U.S. and returned home to set up businesses.
