The Government intends to take out loans in order to modernize key regional roads and improve road safety. Also, the funds will be used to renovate border crossings at Giurgiulești, Leușeni and Ungheni and rehabilitate the roads leading to these crossings.

For this purpose, the Government approved the initiation of negotiations on loan agreements with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, worth $100 million, and the International Development Association (AID), worth $5.9 million, as part of the Rural Connectivity Project.

Among the regional roads selected for modernization are Corridor 5, R13 – Ivanovca-Izvoare-Varnița-Ocolina-M2 with a length of 35 kilometers, and also Corridors 8.1 and corridor 8.2 – Cornești-Boghenii Noi – Napadeni-M5 (G88) with a length of 33 kilometers. Corridor 24 - R34-Ciobălaccia-Tărtaul-R56-Baimaclia-Enichioi-R37, with a length of 43 kilometers, will also be modernized.

The Government itself plans to contribute $64.02 million to fund the Rural Connectivity Project, by relying on the Road Fund, drawing from it $12.8 million a year proportionally throughout the project implementation period.
