The personnel of the General Public Prosecutor’s Office, Centre for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption, Ministry of Home Affairs, State Tax Inspectorate and a couple of other institutions subordinated to central administration will be reduced by 10 percent. An ordinance to this effect will be considered at the Government sitting on October 24, on the request of the President. Vladimir Voronin formulated this request within a meeting tackling abusive and ineffective checks at companies by inspection bodies, the presidential press service reports. The head of state showed his dissatisfaction with the fact that there are too many inspection authorities with too many employees, which leads to exaggerated control. The president brought the example of a recently visited company, which was subjected to 14 verifications in the last two years. The number of checks amounted to 13 at the beginning of this year. According to Vladimir Voronin, the false zeal showed by control bodies reveal some interests that have nothing in common with the duties of the mentioned structures. The activity of inspection bodies must comply with European norms and should be operated within a clear, transparent and responsible mechanism, which will exclude any pressure upon the entrepreneurs and their reputation, the head of state pointed out, quoted by the presidential press service. The Government decision concerning staff reduction will also hit the Construction and Territorial Development Agency, Standardisation and Metrology Agency and the Ecology Inspectorate.
