The rehabilitation of 3,336 km of national roads of major importance will be completed by 2018. The task was set out in the draft transport and logistics strategy for 2013-2022 that is to be approved by the Government on September 4. By 280 km of national roads will be repaired annually in order to achieve this objective, IPN reports.
The executive aims to attract foreign investments of 1.92 billion lei a year for road repair. The Road Fund in 2018 is projected to total 1.815 billion lei.
The transport and logistics strategy for 2013-2022 will substitute the land transport infrastructure strategy for 2008-2017 that was approved in February 2008. This strategy will be abrogated.
The new strategy covers the roads, railways, the internal road, air and maritime/naval transport and is aimed at facilitating trade and solving customs and border crossing problems. It is designed to transform the transport and logistics sector into a factor that will enable to obtain sustainable economic growth by stimulating trade and exports.
Moldova has one principal airport and several smaller airports, a main maritime port, a network of 10,544 km of roads and 1,156 km of railroads.
