Government to allot 1.4 million lei for Republican Stadium reconstruction project

The Government will allocate 1.4 million lei from the Reserve Fund, for the reconstruction of the Republican Stadium. Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev requested on Wednesday, July 18, the finalisation of an emergency regime regarding the demolition and clearance of the entire perimeter in order to accelerate the works on the construction project of the new stadium. The Finance, Justice, Economy and Commerce Ministries as well as the Sports Agency and the Agency for Territorial Construction and Development will have to act towards the evacuation of all terrain owners. According to Tarlev, all those who lawfully privatised the stadium areas, will be compensated accordingly, or offered alternative territories. Those who did not privatise the terrain legitimately “should fear lawful punishment for such actions” stated the Prime Minister. The new Republican Stadium will be built by the Moldovan Football Federation, through means offered by Austrian investors. According to set provisions, the Stadium will be demolished and reconstructed within the next two years. After reconstruction works, the Stadium will have a capacity of 20 thousand seats. The demolishment of the stadium started in June, executed by the Construction Trust Baconslux. The head of the Moldovan Football Federation, Pavel Ciobanu, expressed his concern that he might lose investments due to those who privatised territories on the stadium area, not allowing for the demolition procedures to begin. The Sports Venue “Stadionul republican” (Republican Stadium) was built in 1952. Several reparations were undertaken recently, while the venue was fully restored in 1972-73.
