The public association “Justitie si dreptate” (“Justice and Truth”) addressed a letter to the Government, asking creating a state authority for protecting investments and businesses. In a news conference at IPN, the association’s head Ion Dron said the business community in Moldova is now not at all protected from abuses.
Ion Dron said that by the Association Agreement with the EU, Moldova pledged to improve the business climate for all the economic operators and to ensure the protection of shareholders, creditors and other stakeholders in accordance with the EU rules. But in Moldova it will be hard, if not impossible to achieve this desideratum as there is no institution empowered to effectively protect the investments and SMEs.
Ion Dron said the businesses and property are appropriated by ‘raider attacks’ covered by court decisions. Under the pressure of criminal cases started groundlessly, the persons concede the businesses or property. Therefore, a national business protection authority should be set up by the state. Though the legal framework and the business environment in Moldova seem attractive, there are no effective mechanisms for protecting the businesses when this is required as a matter of urgency.
Sergiu Branzila, a member of the association “Justitie si dreptate”, said the small and medium-sized companies are most affected by the situation. “I call on the authorities to support the initiative. Moldova tends to have modern economy and the creation of such a state body is opportune,” he stated.
Another member of the association Victor Branza said that any analysis of the cases of business appropriation shows how inefficient the existing mechanisms are. “The institutions that we want to be created will be able to analyze such cases and how they are dealt with,” he noted.
Member Ioana Roibu said the initiative is aimed at stimulating the economic development of the country. The appearance of a state business protection body would serve as a guarantee for foreign investors and for people who want to start businesses.
