Government owes about 2.4 billion lei to the National Bank

The Government owed as of May 31 (NBM) about 2.37 billion lei to the National Bank of Moldova. The debts are made up of the debt on loans contracted previously – about 1.9 billion lei and the debt represented by state securities (SS) obtained in the portfolio of the National Bank of Moldova as a result of the conversion of loans contracted previously from the National Bank of Moldova – 400.0 million lei (at purchase price). As a result of reflecting the calculated interests and of the evaluation of SS held in the NBM portfolio at the market price, the balance sheet value of the state debt equalled, as of May 31, to about 2.4 billion lei, including loans extended previously to the government (about 1.9 billion lei) and SS portfolio of the National Bank of Moldova (404.7 million lei). The debt remained unchanged as compared to the calculations made at the end of the previous month, but it went down by about 120 million lei since the beginning of this year.
