Government owes 2.4 billion lei to the National Bank

At the end of June, the government’ debt to the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) equaled 2.3734 billion lei, remaining the same as in the previous month. The total debt consists of the loans contracted previously – 1973.4 million lei and the debt represented by State Securities (SS) obtained in the portfolio of BNM – 400 million lei (purchase price). As a result of reflecting the calculated interest and of the evaluation of SS held in the BNM at the market price, the balance sheet value of the state debt equaled, as of June 30, 2007, to 2408 million lei, including the previous loans of 2002.3 million lei and the SS portfolio of the Bank of 405.7 million lei.
