The Rehabilitation Centre for Children at Risk “Asclepio” in Varnita, Hancesti district, will have a comfortable van at its disposal. The Government decided at its Wednesday’s meeting to transfer a Toyota Hiace van into the public property of the town hall of the settlement for the use of the Rehabilitation Centre. Veronica Stefaniuc, Asclepio director, told Info-Prim Neo that the vehicle is a Christmas present for the children attending the Centre that will be used to drive the children with locomotion disorders to the Centre and to the community school. The car is also welcomed by the workers of the institution who make frequent trips to Chisinau to purchase special footwear and prostheses for the children with disabilities. Veronica Stefaniuc expressed hope that, having a vehicle on hand, the puppet theatre of the Centre will be able to tour the settlements of the district. Asclepio Centre was founded in 2004, alongside other 23 institutions of this kind, under a community-based development project. The project was implemented with the financial support of the Social Investment Fund of Moldova with the aim to prevent institutionalisation among children with disabilities and impoverished families and to rehabilitate and integrate them into the society. Asclepio Centre is daily attended by 51 children, including 10 with special needs. Their families enjoy social, medical, psychological, parental and pedagogical assistance provided by the Centre.
