The Government negotiated with the World Bank a new foreign assistance project for improving the efficiency of the centralized heating system. The project will be financed with a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The total cost of the project is €92 million, which is equal to US$ 100 million, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Finance.

The project will be implemented by Termoelectrica SA and the Consolidated Unit for the Implementation and Monitoring of Energy Projects of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure, which was founded in December 2000. The implementation deadline is December 31, 2025. The loan is repayable in 30 years, with a grace period of five years.

The Ministry of Finance said the final beneficiary of the project is the population of Chisinau, namely the citizens who live in apartment buildings and houses connected to the centralized heating system and/or public and administrative buildings, such as kindergartens, schools and hospitals, and industrial and commercial buildings.

The lending agreement will take effect when all the necessary procedures are performed, including the signing and ratification.
