Government modifies regulations on determination of minimum subsistence level

The energy value of the products needed for 24 hours, calculated on average per person, is 2,399.6 Kcal, up 5.15% from the value set in August 2000, IPN reports. The relevant changes were made to the regulations concerning the determination of the minimum subsistence level approved by the Government, IP reports.

Acting Minister of Labour, Social Protection and Family Valentina Buliga said the regulations envision improving the structure of the food basket by reducing the fats and sugar. They were substituted with products beneficial to health.

The area for determining the minimum subsistence level will be extended from territorial viewpoint. As a result of the made changes, the responsible institutions will work out a methodological guide on the calculation of the minimum subsistence level. The executive decided that the method of determining the minimum subsistence level will be reviewed once in five years.

In 2012, the minimum subsistence level per person was 1,500 lei on average, including 1,585 lei for a person able to work, 1,302 lei for a pensioner, and 1,575 lei for a child.
