Government may increase expenditure on elections

The executive will examine the expenditure estimate for elections approved by the Central Election Commission (CEC) and will increase the amount earmarked for the ballot if need be, Prime Minister Vlad Filat stated for Info-Prim Neo. When adjusting the state budget for this year, the Government planned 35 million lei for organizing the election campaign and the November 28 early legislative elections. On September 29, the CEC approved a new estimate, of about 43 million lei. “The Commission is to present its arguments and if the spending is not sufficient we will increase it,” Vlad Filat said. He also said that the money would be allocated from several sources, including from the Government's reserve fund.
