The profit margin on three types of medical use products on the whole chain, from importers, producers up to the end-users, will not exceed 20%. The products include the medical face masks, medical gloves and medical disinfectants available in the state register of biocide products. A draft decision to this effect was approved by the Cabinet on February 26, IPN reports.
Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu said the measure is designed to protect the population, especially the socially deprived groups, offering access to medical use products at reasonable prices. The decision was drafted following the artificial, even speculative situation created on the national market of such products in connection with the coronavirus epidemic.
Prime Minister Ion Chicu said the measure will enable to avoid situations when the prices of medical face masks purchased from drugstores are increased significantly. The capping of the profit margin does not mean that the prices will decrease automatically as these products are now imported at much higher prices than a month or two months ago.
