Government is looking for possibilities to raise monthly allowance for war veterans

The Government is considering possibilities of increasing the monthly allowance for war veterans, which is now 100 lei, and for setting a mechanism for compensating the travel expenses of these veterans, Prime Minister Pavel Filip, stated in the forum of veterans of the police force held in Strășeni district, IPN reports, quoting the executive’s press service.

“The social protection of veterans has always been in my attention and in the attention of the Government I head. We agreed to have a systemic and fundamental approach to the problems you face,” said Pavel Filip.

He spoke about the actions in support of the veterans that were already taken by the Government, mentioning the implementation of the action plan “Memory. Honor. Respect”. There was set an allowance of 500 lei  intended for the wives or parents of persons awarded the Oder of the Republic and “Stephan the Great” Order posthumously. An annual lump sum of 1,000 lei in financial assistance was also set. Furthermore, a monthly allowance of 250 lei was instituted for widows and a monthly allowance of 500 lei was instituted for the parents of those killed in battle.

The Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection was assigned to be responsible for the specialized treatment of war veteran. The number of veterans who benefit from rehabilitation at the National Experimental Center of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation has increased. Measures were also taken to support the service members. Thus, 335 service members will receive new social apartments as of next week.

In the event, a number of war veterans, service members and police officers were awarded diplomas and honorable mentions. The forum was attended by over 500 persons.
