The Government earlier allocated an extra 533 million lei in support of the farmers affected by the regional economic crisis and is taking measures to identify other solutions to substitute exports and to compensate the farmers for the sustained losses, Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced in a new round of discussions with representatives of the Association “Force of Farmers”, which involved Deputy Premier Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture, IPN reports.

Premier Recean said that together with the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the established supply chains and economic circuits were disrupted. “We now need to reorganize exports, to identify new markets and surely, to find additional financial resources to support the agricultural sector. The authorities fulfilled the undertaken commitment to step up the processing applications for subsidies. We are also examining other solutions to the farmers’ benefit,” stated the official.

For his part, Deputy Premier Vladimir Bolea said that all the operational and management measures were taken over the past two weeks so that the Agency for Intervention and Payment in Agriculture processed over 1,000 applications for subsidies, with more than 162 million lei being distributed. Another 3,500 applications will be examined by the end of July and over 550 million lei will be allocated to beneficiaries.

The representatives of the Association “Force of Farmers” reiterated their demands in connection with the possibility of extending the VAT refund program and the enlargement of categories of beneficiaries. They also asked to compensate the production costs for small and medium-sized farmers in the amount of at least 3,000 lei per ha of grain crops of the first group.
