The Government doesn’t have money to subsidize beekeepers, even though they claim to be in a disastrous situation, because the bees didn’t gather enough honey and will not have anything to feed on in the winter, reports Info-Prim Neo.
After the beekeepers announced that they will request support from the Government, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov said that the State does not have the money to offer such subsidies.
The official pointed out that the authorities did everything possible to ensure the beekeepers’ access to the European market, in order to sell their product at good prices, and that this year the beekeepers have gotten subsidies to buy queen bees.
Previously, president of the National Association of Beekeepers Stefan Condratiuc said that a meeting of the beekeepers has decided to address the authorities in helping to complete the winter food reserves for the bees, or else there is a risk of losing most of the swarms.
According to him, the drought from the summer of 2011, which continued into 2012, has affected all cultures. Thus, even the locust trees blossomed early and poorly, the bees didn’t have enough sources to gather pollen from. The beekeepers claim that the lack of May flowers and wild flowers also heavily affected production, albeit those from the north of the country were luckier and their bees managed to collect more honey.
Some deserts producers that use honey say that the prices to the sweet ingredient have already risen.
