The owners of vehicles registered abroad, which were imported into Moldova before April 4 this year, will be able to use these cars inside the country until January 1, 2012. A decision to this effect was approved by the Government on Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Prime Minister Vlad Filat said such a decision was reached after considerable discussion. “We annulled the customs tax levied as a guarantee that the given cars will be taken out of the country within 90 days. Such a move was aimed at allowing the people who work abroad to easier come home by cars to see their families. But some people did not understand our message. However, we reached a compromise in order not to make the situation worse. Yet, after January 1, 2012 everyone will have to obey the law,” said the Premier.
Under the law, the foreign cars older than seven can stay in Moldova on a temporary basis. The amendments to the Customs Code introduced this April specify that this term cannot exceed 90 days during a year.
Vlad Filat said they are considering the possibility of extending this term to 180 days for persons who hold the nationality of another state, besides Moldovan nationality.
