The Government approved changes to the Law on Accreditation and Compliance Assessment. These refer to the appointment of the members of the Accreditation Council of the National Accreditation Center (MOLDAC).

The assessors of the European Cooperation for Accreditation (EA) ascertained that the members of the Accreditation Council are too dependent on the Government as the composition of the Council is approved by the Ministry of Economy and this works based on regulations formulated by the Ministry.

In response to the recommendations of the European experts, the Government amended Article 8 of the law. Consequently, the members of the Council will be named by the national accreditation body.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac said if MOLDAC signs the Mutual Recognition Agreement with the European Cooperation for Accreditation, the results of tests, certifications and inspections carried out by Moldovan compliance assessment bodies could be recognized in the European and international economic area. This will ensure the free movement of Moldovan goods and services on foreign markets.
