Government disapproves of celebration of 20 years since proclamation of unconstitutional Transnistrian regime

The Government of Moldova issued a statement, saying that it disapproves of the celebration on September 2 of 20 years since the foundation of the breakaway republic of Transnistria. “Any gesture encouraging the idea of separatist movements created before the collapse of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics is inappropriate. The former Soviet oligarchy then staged actions of rebellion against the authorities of the member states in the regions where there were preconditions, so as to hinder them from obtaining independence,” the Government says in its statement, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “Regretfully, the putsches and separatist movements generated tragic conflicts. The conflicts in Abkhazia, Adjara, Mountainous Karabakh, Chechnya, South Ossetia and Transnistria are the longest ones.” The statement also says that Moldova went through a dramatic period when fighting to defend its independence and territorial integrity. But now the Moldovan authorities promote exclusively the peaceful methods of reintegrating and strengthening the state. The Government's working program approved in Parliament by the Alliance for European Integration is implemented consistently and is aimed at identifying a viable political solution to the Transnistrian dispute and promoting the confidence building measures. The political representatives of Chisinau and Tiraspol meet practically every month, while in the 5+2 format – every quarter. The official Transnistrian conflict settlement talks suspended in 2006 are set to be resumed. “We managed to find solutions to a number of old problems that affect the population and companies. We simplified the import-export operations, fully restored the railway routes, reconnected the fixed-line telephone networks between the two banks of the Nistru. We are ready to support the reopening of the Moldovan Metallurgical Plant, reintroduce the Chisinau-Odessa passenger train and help solve other cases that impact the lives of the Transnistrians,” reads the statement. The Government stresses it is waiting for constructive answers to the approaches concerning the restoration of normal learning conditions at the Romanian language schools, ensuring the free movement of persons and others. According to the executive, the encouragement of the secessionist attempts with military demonstrations runs counter to the constructive efforts on which Moldovan society and international community count. The Government calls on the possible guests from abroad invited to the celebrations in Tiraspol to refrain from taking part in them and from making statements that could affect the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova.
