Government declines the draft on harmonizing RM quality systems with international standards

The decision draft on approving the RM Quality Infrastructure Concept (QIC), stipulating the harmonizing the quality systems with international standards, was declined by the Executive.
Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev mentioned on Wednesday, 31 May, at the governmental meeting, that this project does not provide protection actions of consumers’ rights and of the internal market, and does not stipulate control mechanisms. Beside this, Tarlev mentioned, the document was submitted to late for examination. According to the premier, nor the Economic Council by the prime minister, neither the working group on regulating entrepreneurship activity has been consulted while drafting the project.
The prime minister required to Ministry of Economy and Commerce, with the support of scientific community, to present within 5 days proposals in order to improve it.
QIC stipulates harmonizing the regulating systems and quality infrastructure with European and international ones, as well as reshaping the National Standardization Body into a structure able to organize standardization activities at the level of European and international requirements and practices. It was planned as well to identify and abrogate the documents contrary to adopted European standards, to increase the application degree of national standards etc.
The direct beneficiaries of the Concept are to be the Service for Standards and Metrology, Standardization and Metrology Institute, Accreditation Center for goods’ quality.
The total cost of implementing the Concept is about 84 million dollars for a 15-year term.
