Political commentator Mihai Cernencu considers a minority government invested with the help of the Communists will be vulnerable, but a government that will include the Liberal Party (PL) can be as vulnerable as the minority one, supported by the Party of Communists (PCRM).

“I already projected that this minority government will be vulnerable. But if it had been created together with the PL, wouldn’t it have been vulnerable too? Earlier the PL didn’t want to vote the Government. There are things in Moldovan politics that shouldn’t exist in a perfect democracy,” Mihai Cernencu stated for IPN.

Thought the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party signed the agreement on the formation of a government coalition being supported by the Communists, the future government may be not so vulnerable. “It seems to me that these things had been discussed thoroughly. The Party of Communists can yet show what it can, but, being in a decline, it does not have the chance to return to power and they could use the formula they have now at their disposal,” said the politologist.

Mihai Cernencu also said that the Lib-Dems and the Democrats agreed with the Communists to choose together the head of state in two years and thus we will not witness crises until then. “The European integration process will be slowed down to a certain extent, as the Communists will put up resistance when less convenient laws for them will be adopted. The budget will be rather social as the Communists will insist on this. Not many investments will be made,” he stated.

As to the possible composition of the future executive, Mihai Cernencu said he knows that they tried to bring people without a criminal record into the new Government. “This is good and I anticipate that we will have new faces at the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Health. Finance Minister Anatol Arapu, Foreign Affairs Minister Natalia Gherman and Transport Minister Vasile Botnari will probably keep their posts. Those who will preserve the seats had never been investigated,” he noted.

The Government created by Iurie Leanca must be invested on February 11 at the latest. In its February 9 meeting, the Parliament’s Standing Bureau will set the date the legislature will come together to vote the Government in.
