Drivers caught speeding will face license suspensions, and so will driving schools with low pass rates, under a proposal by acting prime minister Pavel Filip.

In particular, in line with the practice of some European countries, drivers will lose their licenses for 3 to 6 months if they go over 100 km/h within urban areas (compared to the speed limit of 50 km/h) and 140 km/h outside urban areas (where the speed limit is 90 km/h).

At the same time, Pavel Filip wants simpler procedures for issuing driver’s licenses. “It’s not normal that people have to wait in lines for hours. Where there are queues, there is corruption. What I want is not easier rules for getting a driver’s license, but rather easier procedures for issuing them. The more complicated the procedures, the bigger risks for corruption”, argued the acting prime minister.

To ensure that instruction standards are high, it was also proposed to strip driving schools with low pass rates of accreditation.
