The Head of the first Parliament of Moldova Alexandru Mosanu said he does not agree with the decision to send Moldovan soldiers to the victory parade that will take place in the Red Square in Moscow on May 9, when it will be 65 years of the victory in the Second World War. At the solemn sitting of the Parliament on April 26, where the Declaration of Independence was to be signed again by former and current MPs, Alexandru Mosanu said neither the senior authorities nor the Moldovan soldiers should go to Moscow, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Russia celebrates the victory of the USSR. What should we celebrate there? We were occupied by the tzarist Russia and the totalitarian Communist regime. We were tore off Romania and transformed into a colony. Why should we celebrate this sad destiny in Moscow?” Alexandru Mosanu said.
Last weekend, Acting President Mihai Ghimpu announced that the Alliance for European Integration decided to send 70 Moldovan soldiers to the May 9 parade in Moscow. Afterward, he said he will not take part in the parade. “If the Moldovan soldiers go to Moscow, I will not go. Only the winners go there. What should the defeated do there?” Mihai Ghimpu told the radio station “Vocea Basarabiei”.
Deputy Speaker Serafim Urecheanu, the leader of the Moldova Noastra Alliance, said on April 26 he will insist that the Caretaker President Mihai Ghimpu should take part in the parade. “He represents Moldova and should not act in accordance with his ambitions. He must fulfill the people's wishes. I think this issue will be discussed inside the Alliance,” Urecheanu said.
Moldova's second President Petru Lucinschi considers that the tensions inside the government coalition should not affect the foreign policy of the country. “This is not a policy, but stubbornness. I think we should go to Moscow,” he said.
The Moldovan soldiers started to prepare for the parade on April 24. One week before May 9, they will go to Moscow for rehearsals.
