The Government has condemned “the actions aimed at straining the situation in the Transnistrian region”, calling on members of the public to keep calm, Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița told a press conference Wednesday.

Asked what the government knows about reports of shooting in Cobasna this morning, Natalia Gavrilița said that the situation is stable and that it is up to the experts to decide on the risks. “The duty of the Government is to ensure calm so that the Republic of Moldova, its entire territory, is not drawn into the war”, she declared.

The prime minister also said the increased traffic at checkpoints on the administrative border with the breakaway region is related to traditional family trips around Easter, rather than being an indication of people fleeing Transnistria. Enhanced security measures due to the recent blasts reported in the region also add to the wait times at the checkpoints.
