The Government has given the green light for the construction of two new efficient cogeneration plants with a total capacity of 55 MW of electricity and at least 43 Gcal/h of thermal energy. They will replace the former thermoelectric plant CET-1 that was put into operation in 1951 and will contribute to increasing the internal electricity production capacity, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Energy, the plants will operate with internal combustion engines. This is a flexible technology with potential to balance Moldova’s energy system, which is essential for the development of renewable energy sources.

The two plants are to be built by the end of 2025. The project is financially supported by the World Bank, within the Moldova District Heating Efficiency Improvement Project. The value of the works is €92 million.
