The Cabinet has approved a bill criminalizing a number of acts under the anti-terror legislation, IPN reports.
In particular, the bill makes it a crime, punishable by 4 years in prison, to seek training on how to manufacture or use explosives, WMDs, radioactive materials and other weapons for terrorist purposes. The same crime perpetrated by a legal entity shall be punished by a fine ranging from 200,000 to 350,000 lei and dissolution.
The bill also criminalizes traveling and facilitation of travels for terrorist purposes, carrying prison terms ranging from 3 to 7 years. The same crimes perpetrated by legal entities shall carry a fine ranging from 150,000 to 350,000 lei and the company’s dissolution.
These amendments to the Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code are in line with Moldova’s Council of Europe and UN commitments.
The Cabinet also approved a bill proposing the ratification of the Additional Protocol to the CoE’s Convention on the Prevention of Terrorism adopted in Riga in October 2015 and signed by Moldova in March 2016. SIS director Mihai Balan noted that the Protocol will be applied only on the western side of the Nistru until the reunification of the country.
