The Government has approved the draft 2023 mandatory health insurance scheme, which comes with a higher price tag, of 12,636 lei, on the single-premium policy. Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco advised uninsured people to buy the policy by March 31 and qualify for large discounts, which would reduce the policy’s cost to that of the past years.

Nemerenco said the premium had to be raised because it hadn’t been changed significantly since 2014.

A large number of groups, including individual small farmers, small retailers, foreigners, social mediators, lawyers, translators, independent family doctors and others, are eligible for discounts if they buy the policy until March 31.

In recent years, the single-premium mandatory health policy cost 4,056 lei, which makes the increase approved by the Government today almost triple. Under the national scheme, insured people are covered through 9% deductions from their salaries and other earnings.
