The National Park “Lower Nistru” (“Nistru de Jos”) will be created in Moldova. The protected lot will be 62,000 square meters in area and will embrace the territorial borders of 13 localities of the districts of Ștefan Vodă and Căușeni and three localities situated on the left side of the Nistru. The Cabinet on March 9 approved the bill concerning the founding of the park, IPN reports.

The National Park “Lower Nistru” will have functional areas with a distinct legal regime – from strictly protected area to economic activities that do not run counter to the regime of the national park.

A management plan will be later designed and this will stipulate measures to protect and conserve vulnerable ecosystems or to create conditions for extending and reproducing endangered species.

Moldova has a number of parks and natural reserves protected by the state, such as the National Park “Orhei”, the scientific reserves “Pădurea Domnească”, “Codrii”, “Iagorlîc”, “Prutul de Jos” and “Plaiul Fagului”.
