The Cabinet endorsed a draft decision by which the Ministry of Justice suggests determining the constitutionality of the Shor Party. According to Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco, the application contains sufficient arguments showing that the party by its activities so far acted against the rule of law principles and endangers Moldova’s sovereignty and independence, IPN reports.
“In all the elections in which the Shor Party took part, it was penalized for violating the electoral legislation, including illegal financing. Moreover, the illegal financing actions have expanded and the party is being investigated in a number of criminal cases referring to illegal financing coming from an organized criminal group and for the broad support this party has received from the intelligence services of the Russian Federation,” the minister stated in the Cabinet’s meeting.
The draft decision says the Shor Party’s actions the last six years have been incompatible with the fundamental principles of democracy. Also, journalistic investigations showed that the party made effort to undermine Moldova’s European development course with the involvement of foreign intelligence services and the party’s leader was recently put on the U.S.’s sections list.
The Shor Party described the Ministry of Justice’s initiative as one more serious abuse on the part of the PAS government. “Our party was founded based on the right to freedom of association – a sacred value of democracy that is enshrined in the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights,” noted the party led by the fugitive MP Ilan Shor.
