The judges will be appointed to serve until they reach the age limit by the President of the Republic of Moldova without a probation period of five years being needed, as it is provided in an amendment to the Constitution approved by the Government.
Another amendment provides that the President will be able to reject the candidate for judge proposed by the Superior Council of Magistracy only once.
Also, the judges would be named in the same way as the judges of Appeals Court, which is at the suggestion of the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Supreme Court of Justice.
Fewer than half of the members of the Superior Council of Magistracy would be chosen from among judges and their single terms in office would be of six years.
The minister of justice, prosecutor general and president of the Supreme Court of Justice would not be members of the Superior Council of Magistracy.
As Minister of Justice Fadei Nagachevski said, the bill to amend the Constitution will be submitted to the Constitutional Court. If it is approved by at least four CC judges, the bill will be remitted to Parliament for adoption.
