Government approves amendment banning child sex offenders from school jobs

Those convicted of sexual offenses against minors will be banned from all school jobs under an amendment to Article 53 of the Law on Education, which was approved by the Government at its meeting on Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. The amendment was initiated by MP Liliana Palihovici, Deputy Speaker of Parliament. The measure is in line with Moldova's commitments under the Council of Europe's Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, ratified by Moldova on 19 December 2011. According to the information note accompanying the amendment, in recent years the number of minors subjected to violence or sexual abuse has been on the rise.
