Bocks with government apartments for police officers will be built on an area of 8 hectares on Testemitanu St in Chisinau. The administration of the Ministry of the Interior is for constructing studio apartments with an area of 20-25 square meters as entry-level police officers will be given priority when government apartments are distributed, Minister of the Interior Alexandru Jizdan stated in a TV program.

To an inquiry by IPN News Agency, the Ministry of the Interior responded that the normative documents are being worked out and a feasibility study will be conducted for changing the purpose of the land on which the given blocks will be erected. The study will assess the housing needs of police officers and, respectively, will determine the number of necessary apartments.

Alexandru Jizdan also said that the apartment buildings will be constructed within a public-private partnership. “Today we are interested in building studio apartments of 20-25 square meters as the entry-level police officers face the biggest dwelling-related problems and have to rent accommodations and pay high rental,” stated the minister.

The police officers will pay only for maintenance.  If they leave the system, they will also leave the apartment.

Alexandru Jizdan said they expect that the blocks will start to be erected in 2017.
