The Good Wednesday from the Passion Week draws believers closer to Holy Easter. The Orthodox Church recommends that every Christian pays heed, on this day, to the example of the dissolute woman, estranged from God and become a prude on this day. With penitence and tears she brought precious myrrh to anoint Christ, and thus the sinner became a prude. Another example of the Good Wednesday is the one of Judas, Jesus’ disciple, who, although close to the Lord, anyway sold Him away against thirty pieces of silver to Pharisees and learned men who wanted to kill Him. Judas’ gesture conducted that Wednesday was instituted as a fast day. On the Good Wednesday, Christian have the customs to fast severely. The Orthodox clerics say that, in order to feel at least a little bit from the most authentic paschal joy, the fast should be made as severe as possible. The ones not refraining at all till now should rather fast on these days of Lent, knowing that, as Saint John Chrysostom wrote, God’s joy spells over the one coming on the eleventh hour as it does on the one who came to Christ on the first hour. After the Good Wednesday, the Good Thursday comes with four things to be celebrated – Jesus washing the apostles’ feet, the Last Supper when the Eucharist Mystery was instituted, the prayer in the Gethsemane garden and the Lord’s being caught by the ones willing to kill Him, Info-Prim reports.
