The director of Goethe-Zentrum Chisinau Corina Gîrla was awarded the medal of merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany. The award was conferred by the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the proposal of the Federal Foreign Office, IPN reports.
The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Chisinau noted that this order recognizes the special merits of Corina Gîrla for the German-Moldovan cultural cooperation, the Goethe-Zentrum becoming not only a center for teaching the German language for students and teachers, but also a meeting place and a place of cultural exchanges between the two countries.
Margret Maria Uebber, Germany’s Ambassador in Chisinau, said that the center under the leadership of Corina Gîrla “significantly contributes to the presentation of a contemporary, modern image of an open and tolerant Germany, but also to the revelation of controversial topics”. “Above all, by teaching the German language, the center has built bridges between our countries,” said the diplomat.
“We have close relations with Germany, which we want to extend further, including in the field of culture,” said Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan. He noted that Germany is a friendly country that has supported Moldova since the declaring of independence and accompanied it on its European road. “But the relations between countries also depend on relations between people and that’s why the language and culture exist,” stated the official.
The award ceremony took place at the residence of Germany’s Ambassador in Chisinau.
